The Masters World Championships for my age group were in Antalya, Turkey in March 2023. This year, there were around 620 players from 32 countries, both men and women, participating in the 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 age groups. I was selected to play for Great Britain in the W45 age group and we were placed in a group with India and Finland. We won both matches and finished top of the group, thereby qualifying for the playoffs for the top 8 positions. Next up was a tough Dutch team who were too strong for us on the day. We then played Japan and won. Our final match was against the United States, which we lost in two tough 3-set singles matches. Overall, we finished 6th in the W45 age group with France winning the gold medal.
It was another fantastic experience playing for Great Britain. The highlight was that all age groups were in one location, so the team camaraderie was wonderful. It was fun competing against players from all over the world, making new friends and reconnecting with old ones. My goal is to keep working on improving my game and to carry on competing as long as I can.
